February 5, 2019, Vernal, Utah – James Y. Taylor, Utah State University Uintah Basin (USU) associate vice president, was named post-secondary educator of the year by the Utah Association of Career and Technical Education (UACTE). Taylor has supported and grown the Career and Technical Education (CTE) field in the local community throughout his tenure at USU Uintah Basin, mentoring and leading many students to rewarding careers.

“We are impressed with how James has supported CTE. This award recognizes his efforts in growing this field in the Uintah Basin,” said Brandon Aycock, Uintah work-based learning and Uintah CTE pathways coordinator. “James is a master educator and leader, and it’s thanks to his work that CTE is experiencing so much success in the Basin. He is well respected among CTE educators.”

Taylor has supported strong partnerships with Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech) and industry partners. Prospective nurses are able to seamlessly transition from UBTech to USU Uintah Basin to complete their degrees. The stackable programs initiative allows students to turn their UBTech certificates into credit hours at USU Uintah Basin. Taylor also played a leading role in the Be Career Ready campaign – a collaboration between USU Uintah Basin and UBTech to provide important information for prospective students, industry and job seekers through Career Education Summits.

The Association for Career and Technical Education is the largest national association dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for successful careers. The Utah section connects educators, policy makers, and more to increase public awareness and appreciation of CTE programs, as well as ensure these programs receive local, state, and federal funding. Taylor received the award at the annual UACTE conference in February 2019.
